This beautiful (Nigerian looking) doe is Nutmeg. She is actually a Mini-Mancha though only a quarter Lamancha. The ear gene in Lamanchas is an incomplete dominant, two dominant ear genes gives you gopher ears (very small and close to the head). One dominant ear gene gives you elf ears which can be an inch or two off the head. The full size Nigerian type ears are actually recessive. So breeding two elf eared goats together gives you a 25% chance of full eared kids. This does happen rather often in minis. So by breeding Nutmeg's dam Posie to a Nigerian, there was actually a 50/50 chance that the kids would have upright or elf ears. Nutmeg got the full ears.
     Ok enough about ears, this lovely doe has large easy to milk teats and is said to be a really good milker. I can't wait to see her udder myself. Her dam Posie is a really nice doe and I knew I wanted her in my mini herd. When I was told about Nutmeg being for sale as a bred doe I jumped at bringing her home too. Posie will kid there, Nutmeg will come here and kid. I am planning to retain at least one doeling. You can see Nutmeg's dam's udder below.
     Nutmeg will be for sale after kidding. Like her dam Posie she is wild, however she is much more level headed when she isn't with her dam. When I had them separated, Nutmeg was very calm and relaxed, but when Posie is in the pen with her she tends to want to act like Posie which is a problem in my book. I haven't milked Nutmeg yet, but she did come with her dam from the same farm and is milk trained so I expect she's beautifully mannered on the milk stand. That being said I still plan to move her in the Spring after kidding. I would also consider selling her ONLY with a doe kid back agreement.
